Mar. 19--SpaVisage has added local medical specialists and sports nutritionists to make it a 'medical day spa.'

The tie-in is a natural one, says Belinda Gambuzza, who co-owns SpaVisage with her husband, Frank, because it combines science, medicine and beauty into one package.

Dr. E. Edward Breazeale, a board-certified plastic surgeon, and Dr. Meredith T. Overholt, a board-certified dermatologist, have opened satellite offices of their practices at SpaVisage's 1645 Downtown West location. Breazeale will take appointments at SpaVisage from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Overholt will see patients between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

'While medical doctors and aestheticians sometimes approach beauty and health from different directions, ultimately our goals are the same,' Overholt said in a press release. 'Dr. Breazeale and I have offered cosmetic services within our practices for years. Our partnership with SpaVisage allows us to offer these services to a large clientele who consider their appearance a priority.'

Breazeale said the new setting may open doors for people who might be reluctant to go to a traditional office. 'Some people are uncomfortable in a more traditional clinical setting,' Breazeale said. 'At SpaVisage, we can offer our services in an environment that many patients feel is more relaxed, but still confidential and professional.'

Breazeale's patients can schedule consultations at the spa for procedures including breast enlargement and reduction, liposuction, tummy tuck, face-lift, laser facial resurfacing and Alloderm lip augmentation.

Overholt will offer prescription skin-care treatments including Renova, Propecia and Vaniqua; Botox and collagen treatments for wrinkles; photoderm/vasculight laser treatments for the removal of hair, facial and leg veins, age spots and tattoos; and sclerotherapy, an alternative to laser vein therapy. In addition, Overholt will treat traditional medical dermatology problems, such as acne, and conduct skin cancer screenings.

Lisa Parsons and Lynn Andereck, two sports nutritionists, are also joining the team. They will offer personalized nutritional counseling and menu planning services, as well as oxidative typing, a process that analyzes how an individual's body processes food and expends energy. Appointments are available Mondays through Fridays between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Appointments with the doctors and nutritionists can be combined with the spa's offerings, which include massage therapy, body treatments, facials, manicures and yoga. SpaVisage also features makeup artists who can assist clients with cosmetic selections and demonstrate application techniques to conceal flaws, even out skin tone and highlight specific features.
